And we will commemorate his birthday by talking to the authors of two new books about the Lincoln presidency. British scholar Richard Carwardine draws parallels between Lincoln's rise to power, the rise of modern political parties, and evangelical Protestantism in his book Lincoln: A Life of Purpose and Power.
